Jiao Tong is a poet, a scholar, and a food critic who has presented various styles, tastes, and flavors of Taiwanese cuisine in his 30-plus books. He was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1956, but had not joined the journey of food appreciation until the Wild Lily Student Movement of 1990. It was then that Tong decided to record Taiwanese culture and link that to the spirit of Taiwanese gourmet. In his best-known works on the tastes of Taiwan, Tong had incorporated beautiful poems and committed hours of sensory research (and countless trips to restaurants) to publish a compilation of annual food reviews called “Best Taiwanese Food Writing”.
Tong is also an Assistant Professor at the National Central University at the Department of Chinese Literature.
